Unique iPhone 15 Features
Ztome has selected 11 of our favorite exclusive features found only on the newest iPhone models.
- Charging Limitation to 80%: A distinct feature of iPhone 15 models is the capacity to restrict battery charging to a maximum of 80%. While previous iPhones could adjust charging based on usage and limit it to 80% during the night, a new setting now allows you to maintain this 80% limitation at all times. This not only reduces the risk of overheating but also extends the battery’s overall lifespan. You can access this feature in Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging > Charging Optimization.
- Reverse Charging for Smaller Devices: With the new USB-C port, you can now charge smaller devices, including AirPods and Apple Watch devices, at speeds of up to 4.5W. Additionally, you can charge Lightning iPhones or other USB-C devices with less power than your phone.
- 24MP JPEG Photos: The iPhone 15 has noticeably improved photo quality compared to its predecessor. While Apple introduced a new sensor for the standard models, the 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max share the same sensors. The difference is that Apple now defaults to 24MP instead of 12MP for photos. This, combined with Smart HDR 5, results in sharper and clearer shots. It’s worth noting that you can capture 24MP HEIF photos with more recent iPhones, although the experience is not quite the same.
- Precision Find with Friends: Thanks to the second-generation Ultra Wideband technology, it’s now easier to locate friends or family members who share their locations with you, even in crowded places. As long as both of you have an iPhone 15, you can use the Find My app to track their precise location.
- Find Your iPhone with Apple Watch: With both the iPhone 15 and Apple Watch Series 9/Ultra 2 utilizing the second-generation Ultra Wideband, you can now use your Apple Watch to locate your misplaced iPhone. Simply access the Control Center on your Watch, tap to make the iPhone emit a sound, and the precise location will be revealed.
- Switch Default Camera Lenses: iPhone 15 Pro users have the ability to change the default camera lenses from 24mm to 28mm or 35mm. You can do this by tapping the 1x option in the Camera app or navigating to Settings > Camera > Main Camera to select your preferred format. This feature is perfect for those who prefer a closer shot each time they take a photo.
- Action Button: The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max come equipped with an Action Button instead of the traditional Mute Switch. BGR has provided a detailed article explaining its functionality. A common use case is creating shortcuts to play favorite songs on Apple Music.
- Log Videos: With the Pro iPhones, you can record videos in Log format, offering greater flexibility in post-production. You can shoot in resolutions up to 4K at 30fps with your iPhone or up to 60fps using an external drive. Access this option via Settings > Camera > Formats > Video Capture.
- A17 Pro Exclusive Games: Featuring the A17 Pro chip, iPhone 15 Pro users gain access to exclusive games like Resident Evil Village, Resident Evil 4, DEATH STRANDING DIRECTOR’S CUT, and Assassin’s Creed Mirage. These games are full-featured and mirror console versions, setting them apart from older iPhones.
- Spatial Video Recording: In the near future, users of the latest Pro iPhones will be able to record spatial videos that can be enjoyed on the Apple Vision Pro once it’s available.
- 5x Optical Zoom: Finally, this feature is exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Thanks to a tetra prism lens, you can achieve up to 5x optical zoom and 25x digital zoom.”
