Are you curious about whether Zagreus appear in Hades 2?
While the original game’s protagonist stole our hearts, the sequel focuses on his sister, Melinoe, a witch with a unique skill set. But that leaves us wondering—what happened to Zagreus?
Now that Hades 2 is in early access, we haven’t found any concrete answers about Zagreus’ fate. You might notice that some gods from the original game are missing, like Dionysus and Ares, while new ones like Hestia and Hephaestus are stepping into the spotlight. We’ve combed through the game, looking for any signs of Zagreus, and here’s what we’ve discovered.
Is Zagreus in Hades 2?
Technically, no. His voice actor isn’t listed in the credits, and he doesn’t physically appear in the early access build. However, there’s a small reference to him at Melinoe’s base camp. If you interact with a portrait and select “brood,” you’ll get a closer look at a painting of Hades, Persephone, and Zagreus as a happy family, holding a newborn child.
Here’s where things get a little tricky. This painting seems to contradict a scene from the first game. If you reunited Persephone with the Olympians, there’s a post-credits moment where Zagreus asks her if she plans to have more children. Her response is, “Hahaha, no. You’re plenty.” So, is the painting just a nod to the original game, or is there more to it? We’ll have to wait and see as the game evolves in early access.
For now, Zagreus isn’t in Hades 2, and there’s no indication of his return. We’ll keep an eye out for any hints about his whereabouts and update you if we find anything new.
