Chandu Champion Movie Review: Introduction
“Chandu Champion” is based on the true story of Murlikant Petkar, an army man and athlete who won India its first Paralympic gold in 1972. His remarkable journey from anonymity to claiming the honor he deserved unfolds against the backdrop of a surrealistic life.
Review:
Kabir Khan tells a story of determination and resilience in Chandu Champion. The film moves between the past and present, showing Petkar’s life from the 1950s to 2018 when he finally received the Padma Shri award. Despite many challenges, Petkar never gave up. His unique relationship with fate and God drives the story.

“Chandu Champion” is different from typical sports biopics. Petkar’s dream of winning an Olympic medal pushes him to try different sports like wrestling, boxing, and swimming. It’s both crazy and incredibly ambitious, and that’s what makes the film special. Kartik Aaryan plays Petkar well, showing his inner struggles and ambitions.
The film shows what it’s like to be labeled a “chandu” (a joke) and turn that into motivation for success.
Petkar’s aggression, talent, and persistence stand out as he challenges those who doubt him. As he says, “Medal se izzat milti hai” (respect comes from medals), we see his journey to becoming a champion.
