Latest Netflix releases

Latest Netflix releases: Netflix has once again raised the prices of a few of its subscription tiers in the US, so now it’s time to discuss the only thing that can somewhat ease the impact of that news: fresh releases to stream.

If the streaming giant is going to request a bit more money each month, in other words, at least it helps to be reminded that your reward is a never-ending stream of new movies and TV shows to enjoy, right?

As we do every week, what you’ll find below is a preview of what we believe are some of the most remarkable, can’t-miss Netflix releases coming in the next several days, including some intriguing new documentaries, a fresh K-drama featuring one of Netflix’s leading Korean actors, star-studded new films, and much more.

The most significant and finest Latest Netflix releases in the upcoming week—I’m adding the five fresh Latest Netflix releases below to my personal watchlist for the next week—but, of course, this isn’t all that’s arriving for Netflix subscribers next week.

Latest Netflix releases

There’s also a wealth of other new content arriving on the platform beyond these titles, and you can explore the complete October release schedule here. But for now, let’s delve into a few of the new offerings:

Grab Gotti (Oct. 24)

First off, this three-part documentary series from the creators of Netflix’s Fear City traces the ascent and decline of a real-life crime kingpin who enjoyed a level of notoriety akin to Al Capone’s. We’re talking about John Gotti, the late head of the Gambino crime family, which was once the most influential criminal syndicate in the US.

This one has been on my radar, mainly because Fear City—depicting New York’s battle against the mafia’s five crime families—was such a gripping watch. Describing Get Gotti, Netflix says, “It’s 1985, and John Gotti is the most powerful man in New York; he’s also the most surveilled. His public execution of ‘Boss of Bosses’ Paul Castellano sets in motion a series of events that propel the young mobster to the helm of America’s most powerful mafia family. “As Gotti’s criminal empire extends deep into the heart of the city, law enforcement and state prosecutors vie for their chance to bring the charismatic Godfather to justice.”

Life on Our Planet (Oct. 25)

What astonishes me about the upcoming week’s Netflix releases is a specific statistic: During Life on Our Planet, an eight-episode Netflix documentary series by Silverback Films and Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television, viewers are confronted with a mind-boggling data point.

It’s the revelation that today, there are around 20 million species inhabiting planet Earth—and yet, as immense as that number may be, it’s just a fraction of the total number of species that have existed on Earth throughout history. To put it simply, 99% of all the planet’s inhabitants have vanished. Life on Our Planet narrates the fate of the species that have been lost to history. Given that the series is a collaboration with Industrial Light & Magic, it’s no surprise that the visuals here are equally stunning.

Pain Hustlers (Oct. 27)

Do we really need yet another streaming title that exposes unethical pharmaceutical executives as sellers of ineffective remedies? Well, according to Netflix, the answer is yes. In Pain Hustlers, Emily Blunt portrays a single mother working as a stripper who receives a tempting proposal from a generous customer (Chris Evans): Join as a representative for fentanyl.

This offer, as per Netflix’s official synopsis, “sets her on an upward trajectory financially but a morally dubious path as she becomes involved in a perilous racketeering scheme. Juggling her increasingly unstable boss (Andy Garcia), her daughter’s deteriorating health (Chloe Coleman), and a growing awareness of the harm the company is causing forces Liza to reevaluate her choices.” As a side note, speaking of reassessing decisions, I’m sure Blunt would appreciate a chance to revisit her 2012 television interview that has recently resurfaced, right in the midst of her new movie’s promotional activities (in the old interview, Blunt criticizes a waitress’s appearance).

It seems that Jonathan Dunne was correct when he commented on the unpredictable nature of time, which is “always and never on your side.”

Yellow Door: ’90s Lo-fi Film Club (Oct. 27)

For fans of Parasite, another of the intriguing Netflix releases in the upcoming days is Yellow Door: ’90s Low-fi Film Club, a documentary dedicated to the cinephile culture of the 1990s in Korea. This documentary is essentially a love letter to the days of VHS when a group of twenty-somethings gathered to study films before the internet era.

It tells the story of the first generation of Korean film enthusiasts who formed the “Yellow Door Film Club” and the subsequent rise of Parasite director Bong Joon Ho. In a Netflix Q&A, Yellow Door director Lee Hyukrae explains, “At the end of the day, enthusiasts, nerds, and geeks—whatever you call them—share a common sense of isolation. That’s why they’re delighted to encounter someone as passionate about their interests as they are. That’s how the Yellow Door Film Club was born. We were just a group of misfits who found each other.”

Castaway Diva (Oct. 28)

And speaking of Korean content, this last title is for all those who were captivated by Park Eun-bin in Netflix’s Extraordinary Attorney Woo, one of the most significant releases on the platform in 2022 that garnered global attention. In this new Netflix series, Park brings her radiance, charm, and charisma to the role of an aspiring singer who is rejoining society after 15 years of being stranded on a remote island.

There’s a certain effervescence and optimism reminiscent of Kimmy Schmidt, the Netflix character who reintegrates into society after escaping a doomsday cult. The key difference is that Castaway Diva is a Korean series, which is a step up in terms of quality on its own. The fact that Castaway Diva features a star of uncommon grace and appeal at its core further enhances its appeal, especially considering how well Park carried Extraordinary Attorney Woo on her shoulders.

All the above-mentioned movies are the latest Netflix releases that Ztome has been waiting for and has been looking for. We hope you also enjoy these latest Netflix releases.
